Love O2O (微微一笑很倾城, Just One Smile is Very Alluring) Chapter 4: Before the Wedding

Since they decided to get married, then everyone considered each other as acquaintances.

Ah, there's something strange with this logic......

Hence, WeiWei was with YiXiaoNaiHe for the following two days. YiXiaoNaiHe's usual team also joined them. They are also top players. Some of them WeiWei had PK'ed with them, but she only knew them on an ID basis.

Wei Wei's first time meeting with them went like this:

HouZiJiu (MonkeyWine): "Hoho, new person."

YuGongPaShan (OldManYuClimbsMountain): "NaiHe, Who's this MM[1]?"

YiXiaoNaiHe: "My fiancé."

He said it so naturally Wei Wei felt taken aback. She sent a smiley: "Hi everyone ^_^"

MoZhaTa (Mozarta): "Wow, sister-in-law[2]."

YuGongPaShan: "Fuck me, the sworn bachelor is getting married."

Everyone started talking at once to tease and congratulate them. Suddenly someone said: "Sister-in-law's UD seems familiar."

"Now you mention it, I think so to. Sister-in-law, are you on the ranking lists?"

The outspoken MoZhaTa said: "I remember! Isn't LuWeiWeiWei ZhenShuiWuXian's ex-wife?"

The group suddenly fell silent and the mood became a little awkward. WeiWei was about to say they married for the PK tournament when NaiHe unperturbedly wrote out: "Mmhm, our sister-in-law once married the wrong person. Don't hold it against her."

Wei Wei choked on a potato chip.

Henceforth, Wei Wei made a resolution. When fighting or questing with NaiHe, don't eat snacks or drink water. Otherwise when he says something shocking, she's going to get choked or the monitor is going to get sprayed.

With this group, fighting bosses or doing quests is beyond a doubt very fun. First of all, everyone gets along very well. Next, they are extremely efficient. Before when WeiWei fought with guild members, it would take forever to take down a boss. Now, it only takes a few moments. This being said, Great Master NaiHe needs to be mentioned. His class is the Instrument Master. In Meng You Jiang Hu, the Instrument Master class is a bit awkward - jack of all trades, master of none. Simply put, although an Instrument Master can do a targeted attack, an AoE attack, a assist attack, and heal, but the attacks aren't as strong as a Weapons Master and the assists and heals aren't as strong as a support class's. The Instrument Master class really has little use.

However under Great Master NaiHe, it's a whole different story.

Great Master NaiHe's heals when compared to the Healer class isn't inferior at all. Also, his control is extremely good; his movements are precise. The group doesn't need to worry about where he is or about protecting him. Once when a boss was almost dead, NaiHe - who was acting as a healer the entire time - drew a sword from his qin. He killed the boss with one slash. Large red words appeared from the boss's head then it keeled over with a loud crash.

SwordInQin is the Instrument Master's only attack ability. WeiWei's seen it many times but never with that high damage. It was almost par with hers! Wei Wei was so jealous, tears almost came out. It must be because his equipment is so strong, ahhhhhhhhhh!

With this example in mind, when WeiWei met YiXiaoNaiHe's pet, she didn't know what to think.

NaiHe's pet is a white kitten.

WeiWei's pet is a powerful tiger.

When the tiger couldn't beat the kitten, what could WeiWei think.

In contrast, after examining WeiWei's tiger for a long time, NaiHe said: "When we get married, our pets should marry too."

Pet marriages is something Meng You Jiang Hu has that other games don't. If a male and female character gets married and their pets are the same, then the pets can also marry and learn a small ability. If certain conditions are met, then their might even be an offspring.

WeiWei says: "But the species aren't the same."

YiXiaoNaiHe says: "My pet is a young shifter tiger."

So it turns out this kitten is a tiger after all. No wonder why its forehead has a " (King)[3]" marking. Wei Wei finally found back some self-confidence. A tiger losing against another tiger isn't very shameful.

"Ok ok, they can get married." Wei Wei happily says. His white kitten is a mythological animal while hers is an ordinary tiger. No mater how you look at it, it's climbing the social ladder. WeiWei blurted out: "Is your kitten female?"

"No, male."

"......My tiger is also male."

The wedding date is on a Saturday. Wei Wei rose early morning to study at the library. Speaking of, Wei Wei is very hard-working. You can't not work hard. At this kind of school, in the Computer Science major, all the students are smart. Slightly falling behind means your grades take a hit.

After studying until 4 in the afternoon, Wei Wei begins to fidget and keeps looking at her watch. Once 5 o'clock came, she rapidly packs everything up and runs to the cafeteria. After eating, she returns to the dorm and logs on. YiXiaoNaiHe isn't on and the members of the usual party are also dimmed. Leveling maniac, Bei Wei Wei, shoulders her enormous sword to kill monsters. While happily killing monsters, her roommates come back.

Wei Wei's dorm is a 4-person room. Aside from Wei Wei, there's also Xiao Ling, Si Si, and Er Xi; all are Computer Science majors, and all four are the only female sophomores in Computer Sciences.

"Wei Wei, stop playing. It's almost 6. Our major and Biochemistry has their basketball match tonight. Let's all go," Xiao Ling says while changing.

Wei Wei shaker her head while killing monsters, "You guys go. I have things to do tonight."

"Give me a break! What things? You're just playing a game. Let's go, Da Zhong said Xiao Nai will be there tonight."

"Ah! Really? Xiao Nai!!" Si Si and Er Xi both squealed.

Wei Wei gets starry-eyed and turns around.

Although this was what Xiao Ling wanted, once seeing her roommates like this, "I can't stomach you guys, so smitten. Look at Wei Wei, so composed."

Wei Wei hurriedly raises her hand, "Don't get me wrong. I'm also struck."

To tell the truth, Wei Wei and her roommates are already considered the not love-struck type. However in this world, there will always be one kind of person that not being smitten is abnormal.

For example, Xiao Nai.

Computer Science major, Xiao Nai. University A's top dog. If University A was like a game with rankings, then Xiao Nai would be the no.1 based on popular opinion. For now let's not talk about his genius with computer software, nor how for more than three years he lead the school's team at the ACM international programming competition to glory. Only he is so omnipotent that he's an expert playing the guzheng and Go. He also was selected as the school's swimming representative and won gold, etc etc. No other student can compare with him. His looks are elegantly captivating, his bearing peerless. It would be very hard for another to beat him.

But the smitten remain just smitten. No girl in the major dares strike up a conversation with him. One reason is he's rarely on campus. Although they are in the same major, they aren't familiar with him. Another reason is he stands on a pedestal and is very arrogant. He always looks as if he has no regard for others, so people don't dare get close to him.

Wei Wei has scarcely seem him a couple times from a far distance. One time she saw him reject a girl from another major. That girl blocked him and handed him a letter of sorts, probably a love letter. But don't say he accepted it; he didn't even glance over nor slow down and just walked away.

The strange thing is, even though he's so arrogant, he's popular among the guys. The major's males all accept him. It's said he early on started a company. Quite a few top students in the major were recruited over by him.

There are a lot of rumours surrounding Xiao Nai. Quite a few are from the teachers because his parents are the Physics and Archeology professors. Rumour has it Xiao Nai's parents both are aloof from politics and material pursuits and are old-fashioned; also that they have poor dispositions. But Xiao Nai seemed to have a genetic mutation. In middle school, partnered with a relative to open an internet cafe. At that time, computers weren't as popular as they are now. It's even said he speculated in real estate and stocks, etc, etc. No one knows what's true or not.

As a small fry, Wei Wei also was part of the group that worships the Great Master. She even has some really useful computer programs coded by the Great Master during his leisure time. The Great Master is already a senior; later on there won't be a chance to see him. Wei Wei looks at the game. YiXiaoNaiHe's portrait is still dimmed. She looks at the time, 5:40. She quickly decides to shut down and go with her a roommates to the basketball game.

When they arrive at the gym, there's already a hubbub. Xiao Ling's boyfriend, Da Zhong, is waiting for them at the doors. He takes them to the reserved section.

Xiao Ling starts to sit down and says, "Da Zhong, where's Xiao Nai? Didn't you say he was playing?"

Da Zhong is disgruntled. "Did you come to see me or Xiao Nai?" Da Zhong is the computer science's team principal rear guard[4].

Xiao Ling disdainfully says, "Of course Xiao Nai. What do you have to look at?"

The other three nod in unison. Da Zhong takes a sharp breath and is depressed for a long time. He finally says, "Xiao Nai for sure isn't going to play. Coming here isn't even certain. I think something came up last minute."

The girls immediately lose hope. If it was said their eyes were just shining at 100 watts, now their eyes are at 10 watts. But all's good, the gym's enthusiastic mood quickly buoys their spirits.

While waiting for the game to start, a tall player wearing the computer science jersey suddenly walks up to the girls. To be accurate, he walks up to Wei Wei. He nods his head and opens his mouth but hesitates. His ears are red.

Xiao Ling and the girls' minds immediately have three words - not this again!

Sure enough, after wringing his hands for awhile, the tall, strong boy stuttereringly says, "Upperclassman Wei Wei[5], if we win, can I treat you for an after game snack?"

Wei Wei asks in reply, "Will you lose?"

"Of course not!" The boy sharply jerks his head up.

"Then good luck!" Wei Wei shows a smile conveying an older generation's fondness for the younger generations. It was a very upperclassman-supporting-lowerclassman smile.

"Ya! Upperclassman! I will definitely win!"

The heartened underclassman clutching the basketball ran off to warm up.

"......"

"......"

"......"

The above is Xiao Ling, Er Xi, and Si Si's thoughts.

Er Xi says, "This underclassman is gullible/"

Si Si disapprovingly says, "These kinds of brats annoy me the most, using a basketball game to ask someone out. If they lose they might even blame Wei Wei."

Xiao Ling, "Our Wei Wei rejection method gets more and more impressive!"

Wei Wei "heh heh" laughed twice and faked modesty, "There's no helping it. Practice makes perfect."

The perfect example of annoying was certainly suddenly hit.

[1] Who's this MM?
I had to googled around for the meaning. It can stand for 妹妹 or 美美 or 美妹 or 美眉. Basically it means pretty girl.

[2]Wow, sister-in-law
The actual text is third sister-in-law. From the dramas I've watched, it seems like Chinese culture has a "ranking" system between friends. The oldest will be called First Bro, second oldest is called Second Bro, so on and so forth. It's not a hierarchy, but just a way to call each other. What MoZhaTa means by third sister-in-law is Third Bro's wife. Although in this case, Xiao Nai is actually the youngest so he should technically be called Fourth Bro; there's a reason why he's called Third Bro but I won't go into details. Just accept he is called Third Bro, so Wei Wei is Third's sister-in-law (third sister-in-law). I changed it to just sister-in-law to align more with western culture.

[3] its forehead has a " (King)" marking

http://www.chinatigerrevival.org.uk/about-tigers/tiger-culture/
The first link explains what it means by a "king" mark on the forehead. The second link goes a little more in depth about Chinese tiger superstition.

[4] computer science's team principal rear guard
If someone has a better translation, please let me know! The word used is 后卫, which is literally rear guard. I know rear guard isn't a basketball position, but until I get a better translation, rear guard will have to stay.

[5] Upperclassman Wei Wei
Wei Wei is a sophomore, so she's technically a lowerclassman. But the way the basketball player address her indicates she of a higher grade (meaning he's a freshman). Unfortunately, there's no equivalent in English (that I know of) showing someone is in a higher year. That's why I'm using upperclassman even though it's incorrect. Please let me know if you know the proper term!

Spores here!

Oh. My. God. This chapter took 4 hours to type up!!!! Twice as long as the others!!! Ahhhhhh!!!! Good think I finished this right before I need to leave for my shift, so I'm going to make this short. Chapter 5 has not yet been translated....working is definitely slowing me down. I"ll try to have it translated by next Friday to post, but I'm also planning on taking the GRE next week so who knows what will happen. I'll do my best!
