Chairman Husband, Too Boorish Ch 34: Let's not trouble my little secretary
Yan Liang has been in society for so many years now. Naturally, she knows how to react to this situation when it occurs.
This man was clearly using this opportunity to take advantage of her, but right now she couldn't say much. She could only calmly stand up and use this chance to avoid the hand pressing down on her shoulder.
"You're being nice. My tolerance isn't really good. Let's just leave it be."
Yan Liang thought, since Liang Xi Cheng said earlier if she couldn't handle it to find an excuse to disentangle herself, saying what she said shouldn't be overboard.
But this man clearly didn't want to leave it be. "Secretary Bai, that's not right. How can it be left as is? We have to toast to do it right! Come on now. I see Secretary Bai's tolerance is better than most. Toasting three cups is nothing!"
While the man was talking, his alcoholic breath assaulted the senses. Yan Liang originally didn't eat much before being toasted with drinks. Right now her stomach was roiling with discomfort, yet she had no choice but to force a smile, "Then I'll go ahead and toast one cup......"
She closed her eyes and stiffly tilted back her head before tossing down the cup. The burning feeling followed her throat down to her stomach. Yan Liang instantly felt like the people in front of her were blurring.
Really didn't feel good......
She was really close to her limit, but the entire time Liang Xi Cheng was just sitting off to the side. It looked like he had no intention of helping her stop them.
She wasn't a bar girl. Truthfully, she really didn't like these kinds of dinner parties, but right now her position was still Liang Xi Cheng's secretary. She was currently doing part of her job requirements.
Since it was her job, she couldn't do as she wished. She had to press on!
"Nice! Sure enough, you have a good tolerance!" The middle-aged man was very pleased and loudly applauded. However as before, he still wasn't willing to let Yan Liang off, "But how is one cup enough? At my place, we have to do three cups before we pass. Come on, Secretary Bai. Don't be modest. With such a good tolerance, we can't go home until we're drunk! Another two cups!"
The waiter immediately refilled Yan Liang's cup to the brim. At this point, Yan Liang couldn't laugh it off. She was certain her tolerance was so-so. Plus, she was drinking on an empty stomach. Her stomach was also burning in pain, and she was starting to see double. How could she keep drinking?
"I'm really getting drunk now......" Yan Liang waved her hand. Her words were slurring. Her body slightly wavered; all control was gone, and she fell over to one side, "Ah......"
"Bureau Chief Li, let's not trouble my little secretary again."
Suddenly, her body was being steadily propped up. The moment Yan Liang fell over, she just happened to grab the corner of someone's shirt.
------In the alcohol-fumes filled room, Yan Liang's head swam, yet she distinctively smelled a fresh and clean scent. It seemed like something she smelled recently.
It was......Liang Xi Cheng's shower gel. Mixed with his understated cologne scent, it seemed like it could remove every bad scent in the world.
The scent went through her nose to every bone in her body. Yan Liang felt like her nausea and need to throw up was slowly subsiding......

ReplyDeleteOur MC here is... it's just really hard to root for her when she's coming across as so incompetent. I can understand her not anticipating her boss' needs to the point that she knows what coffee he drinks at what point of day on her first day, but can't button a cuff? Can't politely excuse herself from a party?! She ordered some over the counter medicine immediately after hearing her boss will not take medicine a couple of chapters ago, we'll see how that works out for her.

All the characters are just too two dimensional, and inconsistent. She s handled social events but she can't refuse a toast .

.... Just read this novel and have to say the the MC is inconsistent.. 'don't have time' 'not used to' are all excuses and really is unprofessional. She is the one who take the position to proof something but up until now, nothing seems to be proved? (I know it's just the way the author make her to be), she seems to be too sad to do anything else (well, getting betrayed hurts, but baby, people won't tolerate you for that reason)
